HW News - Intel-Based Gaming Handheld, RTX 4090 Can't Be Sold to China, New AMD RX 6750 GRE

In hardware news this week, we talk about the US banning RTX 4090 sales in China, AMD launching the RX 6750 GRE, Moore Threads Technology preparing its MTT S90 GPU (to follow-up the S80), and an Intel-based gaming handheld, among other stories. Working with AI for classification, i'm not surprised to see the 4090 affected by those restrictions. It's an exception in the way that it allows for enterprise performance in tensor core workloads, while still being in the consumer segment. A pod with 2 4090 will allow me to run a quantized, specialist model in a production environment with the interference speed similar to a A100.

Politics WILL BE AFFECTING our tech industry because it AFFECTS our security and as much as us geeks might not want to include politics Its simple, you're either for life or against life. Rules based order can be simplified, no killing, no raping, no slavery. (aka basic human rights)
So you're either for human rights or against them. There now you know what side you're on. Now trust and believe in the wonderful folks in DoD and the State Department to make the correct decisions.

the whole anty theft and economy war stuff is not simple, so i cnt comment on that, cos i have no bespoke education related to the topics.
And i don like Nvidias latest gen pricing... they are greedy-mofos.
But.... i do find it reprehensible. how the government constantly moves the goalpost...
i mean they do the same thing then the leftist political movements, first its the little finger , then the hand, then your arm...
and that is somewhat concerning.

By the way, we're hoping to start testing on Cities Skylines 2 today! Lots of you have expressed interest in CPU & GPU performance for that one. Any specific requests on testing? We'll be figuring out our approach today. The original plan was just CPU benchmarking, but it looks like it might be more GPU-intensive than expected -- so maybe we'll start there!

Oh nice! Nvidia is going to market new overpriced products! Thanks Nvidia i was definitely waiting for a refresh of your 1700 Canadian 4080, when i can get a 7900xtx for 1300cad. With a super in the name you got my attention, a super is worth at least 400 so I'm going to forget about feeding my family for a month and run to the store to buy one!

Just saying although not many people in China would be buying RTX4090 anyway, but the people buying them are either the elite/rich in China or streamers/influencers, both may influence the next generation of Chinese to be more resentful towards U.S.
To me it s a purely political move that don t really help with anything

As I thought - one is based on the RX 6700 (down 5W on TBP), the other is based on the RX 6700 XT (not the RX 6750 XT , and down 20W TBP) - it's a replay of the RX 580 8GB 2048SP (the alias for the RX 570 8GB AMD used for the Chinese market) except they are now using two GPU's with only the memory size differing them.

I'm surprised that AMD didn't realize that detouring dlls would trigger some anti-cheats. Detouring dlls is an easy way to cheat in video games, so even the most basic anti-cheat would have that protected.
Nvidia got around that by having the devs implement reflex themselves so no detouring was required.

I have a GPD Win 3 that uses the older Intel 1165g7, my main issue with the thing is that the Xe graphics have terrible compatibility with older or niche games, losing a lot of the advantage of the handheld being a PC. Would absolutely recommend AMD-based handhelds instead for that reason.

There is no greater example of game developers becoming completely inept with optimization over the years, than the fact that the 4090, which is now considered powerful enough to be used for MILITARY purposes, has issues with drawing puzzles in Starfield.

The 4090 is semi gaming? If it wasn't for my 4090, then how would I play Vampire Survivors and HL2, lol. The thing with the ban, aren't a lot of the GPU's made in China, so like, wouldn't they need to have the 4090 silicon to make the cards?
reply

Honestly the Ban is so frustrating, it;s valves software being faulty. It's also Valves mechanisms for not letting cheaters know what triggers the ban successfully hid the issue from AMD during testing.
reply

4090 is banned in China yet the price goes up in the country of origin, make that make sense. Aren't the 4090's made in China, if so wont many of them magically disappear due to containers lost at sea

Integrity.... That is what GN has and it's top notch. Even regular mainstream media struggles with trust and INTEGRITY. Really dig this idea of new on screen logos. Very cool and great idea to start using.
reply

these on-screen icons look cute and informative. make sure to keep their labels( gn loaned etc.) at least early in the video then keep the icon at a location that is not distracting.
reply

The 4090 being banned being surreal is almost like leaks coming from war thunder game forums. One just want to prove the other guy wrong so he leaked military documents.
reply

Can't wait for Intel Meteor Lake laptops to hit the market, waiting to see if the battery life claims and how good is the new GPU inside compared to the AMD 7040 series
reply

So if you want to make money now start buying 4090s and other ai chips and provide them to Chinese entities who take them from you for a profit. Bust the sanctions I say
reply

I feel like the PR icon almost suggests it's a sponsored video which is not the case. That could turn some people off (I never watch sponsored content for example).
reply

I just got my hands on a new rig with a RTX4080 about two months ago and now this news about a Super 4080 with 20GBs of VRAM drops! Such is life! LMAO
