This generation of GPUs (especially if Big-Navi power consumption rumors are true, too) is just a complete no-go for people that actually know there's a climate change already happening. Everyone with a bit of common sense should boycott buying these power wasting piece of shitty engineering. They are only viable for a couple dozen of hardcore overclockers where it doesn't really matters but because several 100k units of this GPUs will get sold it will increase overall power consumption.
For new hardware these days I expect either more performance at at least the same power usage levels or a the same performance with a lot less power consumption. Increasing performance at the cost of increased power consumption is bad engineering, even if companies claim efficiency got better.... sadly people will buy this kind of marketing. Products like this should get banned from being sold. There is definitely a need for better regulation of new computer hardware - a energy label would be nice, just not for the 3000 series which would probably end up at the lower end.
TL/DR: This generation sucks energy consumption wise.

As for fan spindown, I personally hate the feature. Because the way these cards handle being plugged into a 3-4 monitor setup. They simply won't clock down fully when you use more than 2 monitors resulting in the fan continuously spinning up and stopping a few seconds later, not only is this annoying sound wise, but it's also very bad for the fans.
I pretty much have to change it in software every time.

Great review and I'm sure you had most if not all of this done before today but EVGA did release a new bios that pushes the card to 500w. I would love to see a second video touching on if the extra 50w really made any difference. Or maybe just touch on it on your weekly news video but either way I'd love to hear your input.

I'm so glad you keep iterating it doesn't really matter what card you get I have this argument so many times with so many people who get the 'best of the best' for an extra 300- 500 without them realising you would have a MUCH bigger jump just getting the next family up (2070 to 2080 etc)

#AskGN Is there any benefit of using 12V over the slot instead pulling all power over the cables? On the mainboard you just increase voltage drop and higher general losses compared to using the cables directly of the PSU. So why do manufacturers still use the Power over the slot?

This card on german evga site its about 1500 without vat and about 1800 with vat but of course EU evga never restocks their site, how arebretailers even allowed to inflate price that much...

I signed up 0n 9/24 through EVGA to be notified. I was notified and bought the card a few days ago. 1,951 which includes tax and standard shipping. Will have it Monday when UPS drops it off

3090 got doc 100-140 FPS with endless swinging. He had to take it out and put in a 2080TI for a Stable stream of 200 fps. Something is VERY WRONG with the 3090.

3090 gives 20-30 fps boost in VR over the 3080 and that why i want it. For you that dont know 30 fps is a massive difference in VR but for desktop gaming probably not.
