The white leading edges on the fins are a terrible way to tell if its a brook trout. Lake and bull trout can have the white fin edges too. Look for a maze like green pattern on the top, white and red spots (brown trout have black and red spots. Char have white spots(brook, lake, bull, trout have black spots(rainbow, brown, cut. Im taking a fish and wildlife course atm in university.

Your -catch and release- technique is sadly lacking! jerking small fish from the water and dangling them from the line while removing the hook and then throwing them back onto the surface of the water is guaranteed to kill the fish by damaging his internal organs. Don't they have game wardens in Canada? See Trout Unlimited C&R recommendations!

Heading to Mattawa (area) for a day and a half trip Wednesday. Are there any walk and wade opportunities up that way? Last Sat for inland trout before it turns to Chrome and others season. Thanks Bill and crew.

As much as I appreciate all the information about which rod or string or lure to use. In this area you can have a hockey stick and 30 lb Berkley and still catch lots of fish

yep, look like most of the creeks around here. More small brookies then most people could imagine. But like you said, 8- is pretty good. Great fun to catch!
