Hi mate! Brilliant video and extremely helpful. Would you be able to answer a couple of quick questions for me? 1) 3mm braided twine, is this polyethylene or nylon braided twine? Is this -tarred- twine? I am stateside, so I am having some difficulty finding what you used, but it looks very nice twine to use for this project. 2) Net needle: do you happen to recall which size you used for the net making example? Morning John, great tuition once again. This is a skill I learned watching my grandad make shrimp nets on summer school holliday trips to Hastings. I guess I was about 7 or 8! I used the skill later, when about 12, to make purse nets when I was ferreting. Never thought of making lobster pots etc, now living in the west country, and semi retired, I guess I have some new projects for these dark evenings! Thank you again. Rich

Another great video John, well done. I've been buying different types of nets to construct drop nets for cliff fishing. They all have been made from cheap non-abrasion resistant cord. After seeing this i'll be making my own from superior cord from now on.

Another knowledgeable sharing vid, great one, you-ve got some great skills there mate. I take it you can even use this to take a weighted casting catch net, with draw string? Would you need to melt the free ends to stop fraying?

Hey mate greetings from down under, have a question, in the video you are just going by experience I suppose of the size of the mesh. I would need a net card/board to get consistency (rookie) if so how would I go about it. Thanks

It-s 30 years since I last used a needle to hang and repair salmon nets. Brings back memories of repairing a tear in the dark at 2am with rain running down the back of my neck. We used 2- and 5- meshes on our draft nets.

I watched a chap some time ago and he used a gauge on each mesh, is this a goog thing for a complete novice if yes can you demonstrate for us? I really would like to try net making.
