TUCSON, ARIZONA - Welcome to Tucson, Arizona, an amazing food city and it happens to be a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Along with a ton of amazingly delicious food, the chimichanga, which is a deep fried burrito often covered in sauce, was invented at a restaurant called El Charro Cafe! Today we re going to eat the original chimichanga, filled with carne seca, a spectacular sun dried beef. In 1922, Tia Monica Flin had a wrapped burrito in hand when she accidentally dropped it into the deep fat fryer. After being deep fried, it turned out it was a good thing, and they kept it! I love any accidental deep fry story and the chimichanga is no different. Today, they are known for a number of different things - inventing the original chimichanga, and carne seca, thin slices of beef which sun dry in a hanging cage above the restaurant. The carne seca is dried for two days, then shredded and cooked down with onions, tomatoes, and chilies. It s then filled into your chimichanga. The combination of deep fried crispy tortilla and the smoky condensed flavor of the carne seca was something truly special. Jeffrey, Mexi Papa, Adam, and I, all agreed that this is a one of a kind restaurant and the food is absolutely delicious. Without a doubt one of the best Mexican American / Tex Mex restaurants I ve ever been too. That accidental deep fried burrito (a chimichanga) is truly a culinary experience and a gem of Tucson, Arizona

I sxually Identify as a Mark Wiens. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of visiting third world countries and eating delicious food in front of poor, disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a Mark Wiens is Impossible and I'm fckng retarded but I don't care, I'm beautiful and full of great foods. I'm having a plastic surgeon install short black hair, sociopath eyes and a 5/10 Asian wife to follow me around. From now on I want you guys to call me Mark and respect my right eat food in poor areas. If you can't accept me you're a Wienophobe and need to check your foodie privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.

Mark, more like you than last Vlog. This is interesting, Americana and your best. Interesting and excellent guest. Blessings.
Good to have you here to see your family and a new experience for us. Thanks
Mark, a suggestion, please give prices or some indication of the price range of restaurants you do. I just checked the Charro Cafe
website and the prices are very expensive. You can only really judge a restaurant when knowing the prices. Blessings.

Come to central Missouri, we have a local mexican franchize - El Maguey and the Chimichanga is on their menu in all its deep fried glory. I think I had one last year. I make small batch guac weekly, just garlic salt and lime juice, I cannot do spicy, hurts my mouth too much, I do not understand how you do all the chilies, I would be rolling on the floor in agony.

We actually have a small restaurant in the Netherlands that has chimichangas! It's called Arizona tex mex, the owner didn't get that arizona doesn't have tex mex. The original owner named it arizona taco house. She was from Tuscan so the flavors are legit! It's in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

I'm from Tucson! I have to say, the origin of the chimichanga has been a debate in my city for years. There used to be a restaurant called Gordo's that claimed to invent it as well. Either way I'm SO excited to see you enjoy our beautiful (and extremely hot) city!

I need to go there. We have them all over Baltimore that is chimichangas. Mark we are the home of Mc Cormicks Spice Company and to visit where they make the spices is a beautiful thing to see and smell all over the area.

Lmao. The words historical and heritage used in any context in the US makes me laugh. It's funny, because I can imagine that a Ford Model T bumper, for example, would be regarded as a relic in the US.

My sister only orders chimichangas and they are on all the menus in southern California that we visit. Too greasy for me, but I always get a bite of hers. Delicious! :-) I wish I could get mini chimis!
