Jason must have been thinking he doesn't deserve such a special blessing Sometimes I feel like I don't deserve anything slightly nice as well, remembering all the things I shouldn't have said, or should have said, and the times when I was not grateful or kind enough. Smokey looked like a shining star to Jason.

A wonderful story, of Jason, and Smokey. Smokey, looks like an Australian breed, a Blue Heeler. This type of Dog is trained to muster sheep and cattle, and they nip their heels. They are a working Dog, and are born to work. I think that Jason understood the need for a lot of exercise.

I have a dozen friendly cats and some kittens at my workplace.
I wish that I could induct them into a loving program like this. If anyone knows how I can do that, please let me know.
The owners want the cats gone. They asked us not to feed them.
Please help if you can.

He looks like a stumpy tailed blue healer, bred to herd cattle by nipping them on the ankles. Unfortunately some blue dogs do this to humans to protect their homes. Descended from dingo and Smithfield blues, the combined DNA makes a stumpy tailed. Very good dogs actually.

There should be more programs like this. I remember someone telling me that only those with the same kinda holes in their hearts can truly fill them for one another. Mr. Jason and his parents must have been very happy to adopt Smokey such a good boy

So, has Jason received some sort of certification as a dog-trainer that helped him when he got out (Actually, I get the impression that he'd already learned enough that he didn't need an official degree--but such a degree would have certainly helped)

Every animal deserves a second chance and every human deserves a second chance. Before they even said it I thought, Man, this guy should be a dog trainer - he's got the skills, the heart, etc. Good luck to Jason and Smokey.

I like it when some prisons allow prisoners that love animals to take care of animals, it makes me have faith in humanity. Knowing that some criminals can use animals as therapy makes me smile everytime I see this.

That’s a blue healer- they require SOOOOOO much exercise or they will literally tear your house apart. This poor dog. I’m crying that he was given another chance by someone who deserves another chance too.

i can 1000% say dogs can you your life with what ever your going through. i can say my dog saved my life. if i didnt adopt a puppy when i did 5 years ago. i can say i wouldnt be here today.

This seems like a hugely considerate program to encourage rehabilitation instead of punishment. And you can make best furry friends out of it, too! Thank goodness for all of you.

I would say that a sizable chunk of ALL prisoners in the USA pose zero threat to the population. I hope programs like this help these people gain their freedom somehow, someday.

As someone who has gone thru the system and now save animals myself, this really made me tear up. I'm glad he got Smokey, I don't know where I would be right now without my dog.

Cattle dogs are not for everyone, but they are so worth it. Very smart, very loyal and sensitive. Mine will gets upset when he hears anyone crying and will lick your tears

This is such a great story. It was so great that Jason’s parents were able to adopt Smokey! I hope that Jason has since gotten out and is working as a dog trainer.

Win win, inmates have something to look forward to in their dayly lives and possibly gain job skills for release, animals get socialized for possible adoption.
