It's no secret that the Academy Awards hates horror films. But with Get Out being nominated for four of the big five awards this year, director Jordan Peele is already breaking records

Get Out is a phenomenal film that absolutely deserves recognition. Most viewers and critics adored it, including myself. Additionally, it's extremely important that work by people of color be recognized by society, because this is how the fight is won and positive progress is made. Visibility is everything. Now, the Oscars were ALWAYS political, so if you're about to say -it wasn't always like this-, STOP. Every form of media has been political. For those complaining, some advice: if you don't like politics, maybe stop talking about politics, stop consuming political media, and, most importantly, stop being negative, for your own sake, at the very least. The rest of us will carry the discourse without you (including those far more qualified than myself! If that seems unreasonable, I'd suggest putting in a little effort and trying to understand why these things are important to so many people. It won't hurt ya, I promise.

Get Out is exactly the type of film I love. Witty foreshadowing, incredible performances (I would've nominated Betty Gabriel for best supporting actress for the 'no no no' scene alone, exquisite visuals, deliberate pacing, and layered interpretations of meanings. I see a lot of people exploring the premise (which is about the marketability of blackness and the disposibility of actual black people) and yet overlooking the story's emotional core, which is about who protects you, who looks for you, who notices when you're gone. It's a movie about race, of course. It's also about the need for familial, community love in the face of vulnerability. Really outstanding.

So want Get Out to win Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay Oscars. It's a very well-made movie with a powerful story and a stunning twist. It has emotion, comedy, romance, suspense, horror. all integrated into one excellently. Peele and his team executed the powerful story very skillfully and it needs to be recognized.

2: 21 is off, this would be the third best picture win for a black director. Moonlight and 12 Years a slave both had Black directors. Great video though! I hope Jordan Peele gets some recognition this year!

It's a good movie, but still very overrated. It's just nowhere near the best movie of 2017. The Oscars seem to not be about the movies anymore but about how politically correct you are.

It's cute what they're doing, but this -Cinema- thing is never going to catch on.
Why would you passively consume things, when you can play an interactive game instead?

Can-t wait to see all the wonderful comments this video brings up, especially peoples opinions about the value of being black. Gonna be really uplifting I-m sure.

Not just a horror film but a comedy horror film. Like if 'Scary Movie' were to be Oscar nominated. Get Out should win, but I'm an eternal pessimist so I doubt it will.

How will Jordan Peele be the second black director to win best picture if Steve McQueen won for 12 Years a Slave and Barry Jenkins won for Moonlight?
reply

Im glad shape of water won so many but i wish these great guys had won! The lead and jordan deserved a lot of recognition for their beautiful movie!

I'm loving these vox style videos, not everything has to be gameplay footage, sometimes you can just take a couple minutes to talk about something

Awesome video Jenna! I hope Get Out wins AT LEAST a couple awards despite the odds being stacked against the film, they really deserve it.
reply

I dont think it will win any of the main nominations. Academy tends to be conservative, and has little sympathy for horror movies.
reply

What makes Get Out a -pretty important movie- is its content, not the racist or anti-horror history of the Academy Awards.
reply

This is a gr8 vid but kiiind of funny because polygon employs like 2 black people, I know they probably want to change that tho
reply

Frankly, any one of the Friday the 13th movies were better acted, better nuanced, better directed, and better overall
reply

Just finished watching this movie and Daniel Kaluuya was sensational as Chris and Betty Gabriel as Georgina. Holy crap!
reply

Really liked Get Out but it-s not my first choice for Best Picture in terms of what I think will win or should win.
reply

Well get out didnt win but at least Jordan peele won for best screenplay and shape of water is the first sci fi film to win
reply

It's definitely one of my favorite movies from 2017. It would be nice for them to win, of course. But we'll see.
