As per usual, The Crown got some things right and others royally wrong. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we re counting down our picks for the times Netflix s semi-historical royal drama stayed loyal to the truth and when they indulged in creative license. Our countdown includes Prince William disappears, Diana s fashion game, the royal response to Diana s death, and more! Which moment or plot point were YOU most shocked to find out is true or vice versa?

The Queen had discretion, absolutely but also saw through her lifetime the reality and fall out of what happens when a RF member falls in love with someone unacceptable, going back to her Uncle that abdicated, to Margaret, and eventually Charles and Camilla, she wisely came to accept her, and I believe wouldn't have supported her being Consort unless Camilla had proven her own merit, she wisely chose not to take the Princess of Wales title, stayed in the background, kept her mouth shut, and showed that she loved and supported her Son the future King. Life happens, can't control who we love and none of us had the rules and protocols of the Monarchy put in our way, on world display, and torn to shreds in the media like C & C were. Diana imo handled the humiliation and pain gracefully, we never knew ahead would lose her life tragically, but wished for her happiness in a future love relationship. No one is immune in this love & loss in life, she would have found her prince I'm sure. For me her loss was about the pain of her sons, I cried that entire week up to her funeral for them, two children, not for the monarchy, or everyday people, just her boys,

When I watched the episodes, I did not get the impression that Diana drove up to the Paparazzi to overshadow Camilla's Birthday. I had the impression she did it, to give them something so they would leave and let William enjoy the rest of the vacation. She only went after he got so upset about the Paparazzi bothering them. The media just made it about Camilla, was what the show implied. I had the feeling, that the show went the direction of presenting the events leading up to Diana's death as huge misunderstandings between all the parts, which left the world, royal family and Fayed family cought in a turmoil of confusion and contradicting blame shifting.

The driver was NOT drunk. There is video footage of him walking around completely sober, even tying shoelaces without incident. He interacted with several people NONE of whom suspected he was drunk and employees of the Fayed family said if he were drunk Dodi would have fired him on the spot. In addition they say that he had so much alcohol in his body that it wold have been impossible for him to pass for sober in fact he had so much alcohol in his body that he would have been passed out. The alcohol story was fabricated later by someone who wanted to just blame someone.

And as far as I remember, it WAS in fact widely reported that Charles did fight with the Queen to get Diana's body with the Royal plane. It's even said that 'Charlea fought more for Diana in death, than while she was still alive'.
I usually really enjoy your videos, but this time I have a feeling of really poor research and bad analyse of the show. maybe watch the episodes a few times, next time, instead of just once? And fact check the actual events with several sources, would also help.

I think changing the Queen's actions when it came to the transporting Diana's body and the funeral was a bad idea because it paints her more as the antagonist and not as the person who bared no I'll will against someone she may have been in disagreement with at some point. I guess they wanted to justify in some way the narrative route they chose with Diana convincing the Queen to go to London.

Tony Blair's People's Princess isn't actually original, as Queen Charlotte's granddaughter Charlotte of Wales was the OG (19th century) People's Princess
(the dead royal in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story ep. 1)
also for anyone complaining about the post-Diana episode, Peter Morgan already did The Queen almost a decade ago

reply

I think ep 4 was poorly done, peter morgan s 2006 film The Queen was so much better because it showed the public s genuine reaction (real life btw) n how it heavily impacted the royals
This episode the public reaction was barely mentioned, and had little effect on the emotions of the Queen and other members.

From what I have seen the Crown is off the mark more than on. And there is definitely times Diana used the media to her benefit and then stressed because they wouldn t leave her alone. Eg: the pic of her in the turquoise swimsuit sitting on the diving board. Screams photo op.
reply

For me they belittle the good feelings and intentions the late Queen had for Diana and exaggerated King Charles feelings. It doesn t help that they both have this cold facade IRL but i enjoyed (and cried a lot) the first part of this season.

Your Honorable Mention that states the series showed Charles went to Paris alone was wrong. The arrival scene at the hospital CLEARLY shows Sarah and Jane walking just behind Charles. So you stating the series doesn t show this is incorrect.
reply

Oh, and Charles travelled alone to Paris? Like I said. you should have watched the episodes several times, because you missed a LOT. He travelled with the sisters, they were actually shown. He just didn't sit with them in the plane
reply

I don't blame the Queen for taking a while to warm up to Camilla, especially since Charles had been cheating on Diana with her for almost their entire marriage. At least they seemed civil, right up to the Queen's passing.
reply

The last one is not actually wrong. Dodi did in fact buy a ring and had it sitting where they were going with flowers and bottles of Don. So yes he didn t technically propose but he was definitely going to that night.
reply

the biggest thing S6 part 1 had me wondering about was if Dodi and Diana's relationship was completely forced/manipulated that much by his father or not. if so, it made me even more sad for Diana.
reply

She really was used by Mr. Al-Fayad. He only had his own interests in mind. All the BS about her being engaged is laughable. She knew him for only a few months. A lie probably made up by Dodi s Dad.
reply

12: 03 is so embarrassing for you guys, the sisters were literally the women sitting behind Charles on the plane and we see them reacting to hearing charles crying over diana's body
reply

So that means that majority is right and somewhat right considering some are happening closed door. I think this season (part1) really captures the real events and experiences of Diana IMO.
reply

Dodi's fiance Kelly is/was one of the most beautiful women in the world, they should have made her look more like a supermodel in the series. Dodi was a spoiled idiot
reply

The costume designers definitely deserve huge pay raises for how perfectly they were able to replicate the costumes to the real life outfits.
