10 Levels That SUCKED in The Best Video Games Paradox8493: Am I the only one who doesn't dislike Cortana? Or pretty much any Bungie Halo level?
Edit: For reference, I'm pretty sure I beat every Bungie Halo on Legendary but definitely not LASO.
Edit 2: I literally just beat Control like 2 days ago. Seems like every time the Hedron orb goes up a level, it checkpoints.
Edit 3: Going back to an earlier point, I don't think I disliked anything about DA: Origins. I put over 300 hours into it and I didn't even own the game. I bought all the DLC even though I only borrowed the game from my father's ex-gf's son.

I used to deliver pizza for Dominos when Dragon Age Origins came out, and I used to deliver to this guy who always ordered and tipped REALLY well but he was in to gaming also. I was 23 at the time and was more in to the usual big name FPSs. Well one night this customer and I got to talking He said he had been playing Origins and couldn't stop. He knew I was a filthy casual at the time playing mostly FPSs. After talking a while he went to get the money to pay for the pizza and came back with a copy of Origins (as well as the money AND big tip) and said here just take this, you have to play it. I felt bad, it was still a pretty new game at the time I want to say a month or so it had been out. I offered to pay for it but he said I don't want anything to taint your experience with it, maybe you will have a better appreciation for it if you don't have to buy it. So once I got off work I started playing it and that started my journey into what I used to call nerdy games. Ever since then I started playing any RPG I could get my hands on. After I finished Origins I tried returning it to him but he had already bought another copy of the game lol.

As soon as Falcon mentioned D2 Act3, I without a question of doubt, knew the pygmies would be called out.
Not many things game wise have infuriated me like that, with the exception of;
1. Back in original tbc Black Temples Teron Gorefiends encounter with the ghost mechanics (half of the raid grp sucked at that.
2. Juninho's easy half-field goals in the mid 00's Fifa games (had a friend who specifically picked Lyon because of Juninho. After a 7-0 loss I shut off the ps2 mid game & never played fifa again, keep in mind, I was pretty good at fifa, but you just couldn't counter the freekick master.
3. Screen sniping in the late 90's to mid 00's during Splitscreen LAN parties with friends or family. There was always that one lame person, who couldn't resist the temptation of sniping. Most of the time it was usually the worst player, which didn't affect the end result. But if it was an average or good player who sniped, it ruined the fun (Wasn't fun as a competitive teenager getting rekt'd by a rocket launcher missile straight to the face in Halo 1's Hang em high map )

The level in metal gear solid 5, where you have to infiltrate not one but two different bases, 1 to extract a guy, easy enuff, the other, an absolute ball ache if you going for no trace, you have to extract 3 tanks that drive from base to base in separate locations, 5 snipers 3 in one area 2 in another, and the other base of the two you have to sneak in, then escourt 5 children, one of which cant walk so you have to carry him, to an area for extraction, just before you end the mission if extracted the guy from the other place first you get ambushed and guards start chasing you and the kids, it's such a pain, oh and you gotta do all of this while avoiding a chopper, I hate this mission so much!

Fun fact: The level design for Cortana was actually supposed to be used in a cut level named Floodship (which would take place after Floodgate) hence why the level looks more like a Covenant crusier than High Charity. Along with that Cortana would have had even more interesting ending, where you would fight the Gravemind in a Scarab. There is alot of intresting information regarding halo 3's cut missions and now that halo 3 has mod tools on MCC, it would be really cool to see these cut missions brought back.

i kinda liked the library in the original. yeah its kinda repetitive but the flood drop a lot of grenades so you end up tossing them in a pile of them and its just great seeing them go flying all over the place. especially when those exploding ones get hit, its like a chain reaction of massive explosions. kinda hard not to at least like some of that level. Plus the 343 guilty spark is hilarious in it, constantly making little comments about things, i loved that.

Crytek did master the art of making wonderful games, and then screwing them up. Far Cry, Crysis and Crysis Warhead all went seriously downhill at halfway when the Trigens or Aliens showed up. Then they messed up the Crysis franchise by removing the open world in 2 & 3. I'm not holding my breath for what 4 will be, but I guess there's some hope now that modern consoles are much more like PCs than the old ones were.

One of my least favorite levels from a great game was the nightmare montage in Life is Strange Ep. 5. What is otherwise a very chill and narrative driven game, the devs decided to throw in a fairly stressful stealth section. While it is story appropriate and not terribly difficult, the mechanics of the game don t really support it. I loved LiS, but dreaded having to redo this section on my second playthrough.

For me the Darkelve King from GoW easily deserves a place on this list too. It's not the battle itself, but the fact that you HAVE to fight him while fully relying on the current gear you have when you encounter him. Since I barely had ANY enchantments or good enough gear and just couldn't give up my ''Give me a challenge'' run after all the valkyrie wins, he took me wayy longer than he should have!

Diablo 2 Act 3 basically ended the game for me, I was swarmed by those pigmies that breathe fire and killed with all of my best gear on, I kept trying to get back to my body to get my stuff back but because I didn t have any equivalent gear stored I kept getting killed. I died so many times that my original body with all of my best gear disappeared. Pretty much game over there.

Something that definitely belongs on this list, the car chases in the Yakuza series, in almost every game, you're essentially playing as a turret, and if you're playing on Legend difficulty, all I can say is, good f king luck with that one man. It damn near killed the game for me it was so bad. Looks like they did away with it in the newer ones though

I actually kinda like these slog levels. Even if it isn't the simple definition of fun, I do find it to be really immersive. I do expect to at some point face relentless resistance on my adventure. Something that feels less like a game level and more like a one man fight against a barely organized army. Kinda like the Doom cover
reply

Mass effect 2 the horizon missions final area. I remember it felt like they threw the kitchen sink at you. At least the first time you play it. Cover is tough cuz husks and your squad will get downed fast. And you probably used all your heavy ammo earlier and regretted it when that giant monster showed up

I genuinely enjoy 'the fade' section in dragon age origins cos to me its a unique setting with gimmicks and puzzles not just combat. And the stat boosts from it and the lore you can get from it is all worth it in my opinion. maybe some people just hate long sections that have too many puzzles? idk.
reply

3: 08 - It was at this moment my soul left my body and ran as fast as it could away from the plain of existance. I really hate the fade - I'd rather bathe in toothpaste than go through that again. I will because it's a fantastic game, but on principle I will make this statement.
