BuzzFeed encourages everyone to do their part to help slow the spread of the coronavirus with frequent hand-washing, social distancing, wearing masks, and staying at home as much as possible. Please consult CDC guidance as states reopen locations and businesses. Maurice: If you are going to compare Japan to the US, they need the perspective on the Japan side from a Japanese person and not an American living there. Also when you buy certain items like fish or pork, it's going to be wrapped. How were you thinking of transporting that back home? Unwrapped in your hand? Pandemic is also adding to the plastic and styrofoam use because people want that added protection.

Japan loooooooves plastic, but at least the japanize girl did a lot better than the Americans, I think buying less take out is a weak solution. Buy take out only if necesary and only from places that are doing something real for nature. It was ok for the challenge to buy take out, bc sadly Americans are addicted to it. Americans have more options than japanize, but they put a lot less effort. and they sound so banal, it's sad.

The problem isn t real food waste or wood the big one is that plastic lasts for hundreds of years and in the cycle of breaking down it turns into firkin microscopic pieces of plastic which gets eaten by animals and the animals contaminated by plastic get eaten by humans causing cancer. This is just the problem when talking about the food cycle for humans

The people who made this are obviously INCREDIBLY NEW at doing anything close to resembling zero waste, which is good for people to see. However, the title is grossly misleading and it seemed like even though the challenge was to go zero waste they gave themselves so many passes that it seemed like a failed concept.

I love the environment, I just need caffeine is the most white girl thing to say. White girls don't want to make coffees at home because Starbucks is the best and everything else is garbage. Little did they know Starbucks only has 12% of caffeine and the rest is sugar. So they love sugar, not caffeine.

The LA girl literally rubbed and breathed on her reuable containers and was surprised people can't take her containers.
Also in Japan they have a better recycling and trash processing than in the US so they could have gone into that as well instead of making it look bad in Japan

'Everything has plastic' is the most accurate description of living in Japan.
. But luckily we have a good plastic recycling system.
/Also I'm shocked that the toilet had paper towels. Most public toilets have nothing, and people bring their own hand towels.

This was not very well thought out or executed at all. other commenters have already made the points why. Japan s recycling system is super efficient. They didn t mention biodegradable items. This was very surface level and not educational.

The japanese girl doesnt even seem to make any effort. I understand it can be hard but why even make a video when you aren't even gonna try 50%. I am sure families in japan make way less avg plastic usage than her halfhearted attempt.
