Want to mount your flat-screen on the wall without sacrificing your security deposit? With some elbow grease, basic construction materials, and a weekend of playing with power tools, you can build a fake wall that the landlord will never even know was there

Better yet, get an old door. Should be free if you keep your eyes open for one. Screw a couple pieces of wood to reinforce where the tv mount goes, and mount your tv to the door. You can lean the door against the wall or put it behind a heavier piece of furniture with the door sandwiched between the wall and furniture so you don't have to make holes in the wall.
If you want a seamless look you can drill a hole in the old door and route the cables behind it. This video is a neat idea but pretty impractical.
Or, you could get a stud finder and screw your tv mount into the wall of your rental. Fix with a couple dabs of spackle before you move out. I've never rented a place where nail and screw holes weren't considered normal wear and tear
You're welcome.

Did no one else catch the fact that he's telling you to cut out a section of baseboard to do this! So he doesn't want holes in the wall but he's fine with cutting out the baseboard in a rental house! What the hell.
And why do you even need to put such large holes in the wall! Just find ways to cover the cords. They actually make things to go over the cords that don't look bad at all compared to this crappy thing you made! Lol

This makes no sense. To mount my Tv to my wall it takes 2 screws drilled to the stud. To do what you suggest adds like 15 steps and then you have to worry about the cost of materials when you still have the same result, 2 screws drilled into the wall. I guess it helps if you plan to hide your wires, but all in all the ends do not justify the means. You still have 2 screw holes in the wall.

I don't want to damage the wall and lose my deposit. So I drill a ton of holes in the wall, and the best part - rip the skirting board off and make a hash and mess of adding it to the fake wall, it looks ugly. Sorry, don't mean to be too critical, coz you have some skills. In my opinion, this is a badly thought out project.

I-m in an old house with lath and plaster walls, questionable wall strength, and a very heavy tv. Patching walls I can do just fine, but the TV could still make a big mess out of the plaster. I like this approach. I think I-ll do the same because I know I can trust the strength of the fake wall. Thanks for the video.

Kind of hard to miss solid wood when on the other side of the drywall you for some reason put a redundant sheet of plywood. Then of course there is the whole pointlessness aspect to all this as has already been pointed out by others.
. and did he call baseboard -crown molding? - Who is this guy?

Nice job, especially the way the wiring is completely gone. Might even use that in my own house.
Question though, is it a thing where your from that drilling holes is gonna make you loose your deposit? . I personally think abusing the crown molding like that can be considered a bigger issue: -/

why? just do the holes in the wall. Just ask to the owner of the apartment! I you do a clean job why you will loose your deposit? And how much will cost to patch the wall after? the only benefit of this project is if you have a wall made of concrete.

Was the whole purpose of you making the false wall so you didn't have to drill into the existing wall. Then by the end of the video you had to Anchor your fake wall by drilling into the real wall anyways that completely defeated the purpose.

The money spent on this wall costs more than what you would have been charged to fix the wall, not to mention the cleaning, needing someone's help, time, etc. How does one have all these power tools while living in an apartment? Lol
