What if the Reconquista Failed? AileDiablo: You know that the Muslim of Iberia and Ottoman Empire and an African Muslim Empire know about Americas both and hap maps and stuff. Spain used the maps and staff that the Muslims of Spain left behind to get there. Also it wasn't main objective to reach India. They knowed about America. I think if Iberia Andulos given few centuries like by mid 16th century or so it would unite and perhaps control Morocco and Algeria and Tunisia and Scilly. The reason why because they will get pressure from outside because they are Muslims and because they would do business with Ottoman Empire. In prosse it might get the cost line cities and villages and towns of Mediterranean sea France and all the northern Areas of the mountains.
Also there is a possibility instead of them going after France they would go after an eassyer unprotected unsupported British Islands o the time of the 8th century. If William the conqueror did it with only 10, 000 a 50, 000 or more by a bit with better preparations or even 20, 000 would very much enough to take down all rulers of the area very fast. This might very likely make them develop a powerful multi Navys power. This might get them a big influence on the normans and Vikings. Perhaps ending rading early.
Then they would with Ottoman Empire hlep get to north and south America and south Africa.
The Ottoman Empire armys might cross throw spain to France too.
All this with the fact they are Muslims they would have a big influence and control of Africa. Which would make Ottoman Empire and Induls aliens very powerful and dangerous for rest of Europe. Navy wise Christian Europe would be unmatched to the Muslims at all.

The Muslims in Spain where at their last 60 yrs aware of the new world. They would have controled the new world with tone of American natives still alive if the requanqesta failed before anyone else. they might take the British islands too early on in 9th or 10th century as it was an eassy target as well as a good target for training and away to intercept Vikings. With that they might in 17th century control north-west and west Africa. They would teamup with Ottoman Empire. They would definitely eventually build a powerful big navy to control trade in west Mediterranean sea and cancel Italian merchants. They might take French French Mediterranean sea costal cities too. They might take Sicily too. They might take Iceland. Thus, it might be a gg to Europe.

This is an analysis done for the situation in which, somehow, the Iberian landmass did not exist.
1. Look at the Ottomans, and how much they fiddled with Europe indirectly, and Eastern Euope directly. The Caliphate of Cordoba would have done the same.
2. The Ottomans were interested in the Atlantic, however, were unable to send repeated expeditions (they only sent one, due to Spannish and Portugese competition. This would not have existed in said timeline. Latin America would have been colonized by Ottomans. Maybe, they would not have been as genocidal as the Catholics, but, that cannot be asserted too strongly.
3. Given that in said timeline, French were more powerful than the British, Northern America would today have been mostly French.

I think that if al Andalus had consolidated by the time of the age of exploration, even if they were not the ones to reach the Americas first, they would certainly express interest in the New World as soon as word of it spread back to the old world. With the larger population they would have the need to settle in order to reduce the excess population, not to mention the motive of religious expansion, a way of competing for souls with the Christians in the New World. If you have the added aspect of a race for proselytization between Muslims and Christians in the New World, then expect things to be a fair bit bloodier in colonial America.

I really don't understand your fixation with the supossed incapabilty of the Iberian muslims to sail through the Atlantic. The muslims sail the Indic Ocean, sacked the shores of Iceland. the winds and the currents are the same. and then are the will of slaves. A) Avoid the taxation of the Ottomans and the Piracy of the christians. B) The transsaharian slave traffic the posibility of a better trade on vessels instead risk the cargo (Oh God it hurts ) through the Sahara would have probably lead to an accidental arrival to Brasil.

The Umayyad caliphs weren't really into expansion.
actually, they were. a lot. the maghreb region, iberian peninsula and the far reaches of what was once the persian empire. must have been just the umayyads taking a walk: . not to mentions their attempts in southern France, the 2 sieges of Constantinople, and the push beyond the Caucasus Mountains. they were stopped, they could not administer that huge empire effectively and the military losses in the last 3-4decades were the last drop for their dynasty.

''The Stuarts were very against unity between Scotland and England. ''
Are those the same Stuarts, starting with James VI/I, who were so keen on uniting their two crowns that they even had a variety of prospective, post-Union, flags drawn up for their consideration?
A Century later, after some English sabotage of the prospects of the Darien Scheme, the balance was reversed with Westminster wishing Union, without a separate Scottish Parliament, but Scotland preferring to remain a degree removed.

Im pretty sure once the new world was discovered and the rumours about the riches there would kickstart an Andalusian colonization and exploration project that the rest of the europeans in that era with access to the Atlantic did.
The ottoman's in our time line attempted to do the same thing, but lost two key wars, one being an attempt to control the Mediterranean sea another being the fact that they failed to conquer Morocco, and so they failed to have access to the Atlantic.

I think you ignore the fact that Al-Andalus would fill the gap of power made by the non-existence of Spain. Personally, I think that Al-Andalus would participate in European politics, and probably they would have had conflicts with France. Also, in Al-Andalus there were many christians, so the muslims may consider expelling them to America. And I also dont think the Spanish would look as Middle Easterns, as in this timeline they would end up mixing.

The Southern Netherlands(Belgium) aslo wanted independence from Spain but the weren't able to beat the Spanish army. Antwerp was actually the first capital of united provices (the Netherlands) and a big part of belgium was in that time protestant. Saying that stayed loyal to Spain is just wrong, especially if you look at what Spain has done to the belgian people during the Spanish Fury(80 year war.
