When did nose jobs become popular? The first cosmetic nose job didn't happen until the late 1800s, but the procedure dates back 2, 500 years. Around the 6th century BCE, an Indian doctor wrote about a process for grafting a flap of cheek skin over the nose. Unlike other early medical practices causing more harm than good, such as leeching or rubbing animal dung into wounds, methods used by ancient plastic surgeons were surprisingly effective and modern (but incredibly painful

Ive had 4 rhinoplasties. The first was to repair a break at age 16 in 1974. The surgeon was was a total quack, although Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. He over-resected my bridge and left me with a saddle deformity. In 2000, at age 42, I went to one of the top 5 rhinoplasty surgeons in the world. He did a rib bone and rib cartilage graft to repair the bridge. I broke my nose again, and he corrected the break. I returned to him due to a slight warping of the cartilage graft. He used AlloDerm, which made the nose look straight and added thickness to the skin, and made my nose straight. That was rhinoplasty number 4. Pick your rhinoplasty surgeon carefully. Dont use an ENT! Exception: Dean Toruimi, MD, a recognized rhinoplasty expert and ENT. But, ENTs are not rhinoplasty specialists! They arent trained in plastic surgery. There can be problems with even the best surgeon among the best and subsequent touch ups may be necessary to get the nose looking the way you want.

I would not want cosmetic surgery. As safe as they are now going under the knife still carries its risks. I'd maybe consider it more if I suffered a major injury that caused disfigurement.
I don't look down on it nor if anyone wants to go through with these types of procedures. There are people who benefit greatly from cosmetic/plastic surgery. I tend to be concerned for folks who get multiple procedures done but if they're adults, it's their body.
I had no idea about Sushruta and this section was really interesting to me.

I already did change my nose after doing a perfect Photoshopped look of the desired result. the nose surgeon was famous and recommended by a friend's cousin. Recovered in a week with almost no bruises after preparing for the surgery two weeks in advance with a immune-boosting diet. Was the best decision ever, I feel so happy and like myself more and on every photo. I'd do it again if I had to.

I'm a little confused of all the sculptures without noses. The video presents them especially when talking about cutting noses off as punishment, which implies every sculpture shown had it's nose intentionally removed. Was that the case? I don't know enough about the sculptures, but I didn't think the noses were ever removed intentionally?

Ancient civilisations were capable of doing complex cosmetic surgeries which includes dental implants and dental jewelry implants so I am not surprised that they could also do cosmetic surgeries such as nose jobs. My question would be rather how did they did with necrosis and other complications.

You should've mentioned about Shurpanakha, the sister of Ravana, the king of Lanka. her nose was cut off by Lakshman, as humiliation. All this is mentioned in the hindu epic. This is a cool fact to indicate about the beleif about noses people had in ancient India.

Watching this video i started to think about other parts of the body. Weird history people do you know if men and women did penis enlargement and outer labia filling in the 17th century and on? If so can you make a video about that topic?

now i kow why evry sculpture has a disfigure nose. I thought it was just because of the stone was chiselled and it went like that, didn't know there was a story behind it. The quarantine had me learned so much.

This is wonderful, now they transplant whole faces. One day they will look back at the facial transplants and see it as one of the first and how it was the forerunner for good face transplant.

9: 53 to look more American? I think the look would be of Western Europe. As American is a nationality and not an ethnic group. BTW, many of these beauty standards are still favored

I wouldn't do surgery for cosmetic reason. If I did it would be to have my legs lengthened 2 to 4 inches so I would be better proportioned. I am satisfied though my legs reach the ground

A nose
Old England rhyme.
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

I was 5yrs old
I still wonder why?

I can't wait to get a nose job. Since I was a teenager I would always have people saying I had an ugly nose. I'm 31 now and I finally can afford it

Nose jobs are basically a rite of passage for teenage girls in some Asian countries. I'm surprised that wasn't brought up in this video.
