What French Revolution Hygiene Was Like

Today, we think of 1700s-era France as a period of unwashed and unparalleled squalor. While this is partially a misconception, it does contain some truth. During the 18th century, people's attitudes towards personal hygiene were laxer than they are today, for a variety of reasons. In a world without the hundreds of modern conveniences we take for granted, personal hygiene was expensive and logistically difficult to maintain. Besides that, experts of the time believed that being too clean was unhealthy. Towards the end of the century, medical and scientific advances showed the benefits of cleanliness, and hygiene was gradually understood to be beneficial. Despite this, cleanliness was still a luxury reserved for the elite

Europeans have so many secrets and have distorted history because if the world really knew how low down and dirty they were people would be ashamed and embarrassed to know their ancestors were nasty treacherous animals(Most people don't know it was Cortez and his fellow Spanish explorers diseases and filthy hygiene habits that toppled the Aztec army not superior weapons or war strategy. They beat them with diseases they brought from Europe. That is just one of many truths that the world is largely ignorant to)

So why do you keep calling me Lord, Lord! when you dont do what I say?
Luke 6: 46 NLT
Not everyone who calls out to me, Lord! Lord! will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name. But I will reply, I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break Gods laws.
Matthew 7: 21-23 NLT

I don't think that any of us take these things for granted. It's just that we have them, the old ways have been done away with, and the ones that came up with the new ways, continue to remind us how spoiled we are because we're no longer living up to our necks our feces. New ways replace old ways, the cost of living goes up, till we reach that point where no one can afford the new ways, but we haven't even got the old way to fall back to.

I literally gagged at the perfume thing. When I was going to school by bus, sometimes an older fat guy would come onto the school bus (it wasn't strictly for kids, it was a regular route, only during school year) and absolutely stink up the front of the bus. He. smelled like s, p and old booze. DOUSED in cologne. I think I know at least a fraction of how bad they STANK. goes back to gag

I guess thats why when I took the subway in Paris, every dead end hallway or near an elevator smelled like piss. When you charge people to use a toilet, theyll use any place to go. And the streets of Paris were covered with dog shit. I saw people walking their dogs and not picking up after them. So in conclusion, I guess Parisians havent changed all that much in 200-300 years.

Marie Antoinette was actually one of the only people in Versailles that WOULD bathe on the regular. Her bathing practices at the time were more based on German practices (since she was originally Austrian) and that was actually another reason the French people didnt accept/like her

Let's see.
the French used their bidet hand to smear lead on their faces, pick lice from their wigs, put perfume on their unwashed bodies, and get dressed in dirty clothing!
Looks like it's time for dinner 8!

Reminds me of when I visited relations in England a few decades ago, and I overheard my cousin saying to my aunt - She baths every night! I was horrified and ended the visit soon after.

it's amazing to me that Europe leaned nothing from the Roman Empire, at least half of it was occupied by the romans at some point, why did they not adapt their sanitary habits?

It was good to see this. I am writing a story about the beginning of French Revolution. Thanks to this video I know how to describe places and people realistically.

Europeans were always blaming every other nation for disease, while they were some of the nastiest people alive. But I love these videos: they're so informative!

I read somewhere that Jessica Simpson hates the slick feel of her brushed teeth, so she doesn't brush--just used floss. Several actors refuse to use deodorant.

When I was there several years ago, I asked how many people lived at Versailles. I was told about 50, 000. So it was no small palace as far as population.

When Napoleon willed his silver bidet, rumors has it that the recipient was unappreciative and remarked this is the shittiest gift ever! !

I wonder what kind of nonsense we're doing now that people of the future will view us in the same light we view these historical timelines.
