sorry but the Home Guard would not have done well same with the troops from mainland. 1 res they had next to nothing to fight with they left everything behind it took time to re arm them there was hardly any units that was battle ready at this time. the usa not in it and not geard up yet and with out air cover south and east the navy would be force to pull back to north west out of range. now think what the germ subs can do with out brit airpower helping in hunting them and foc on 1-3 small areas how many more ships do the brits lose as it easyer for subs and they lose less of them. i dont think they would be able to push the germ out if they got a foot hold as they had nothing left at the time. and when they fin did get man power in from over sea the germ would also have add to there troops say they end up with even just 25% of what they sent to russa there how dose brit get them out they dont. and germ can bring in a lot of stuff from airLift wont be anuff for long run but with out enn air to worry about they can keep light arms and food comeing in easy then have some bomber join in u can get alot of food and ammo like that if the germ had got a foot hold brit would have to make peace. rem most of brit fighting power on the ground was not in brit at the time of the battle of brit. so after the germ get a foot hold would prob not push to far but dig in and with it takeing months or years for brit to get the man power and ARMS it need to push them out and at what cost. peace would be the outcome it may not last but they have to if not germ end up put the army that was in russa in brit and take it all. rem at this time the brit was loseing on all fronts and now they lost there aircover at home so now germ can bomb the citys with out brit fighters come to diff them what dose that do to the morale of the pub and soldiers see your gov helpless to to stop citys burning. 1 of the res brit hung on was it did win the air war it gave them hope show we can win but with out that i dont think they would have had the will to stay in the fight. Shoddy analysis. British Ships without air over would have been decimated. For proof, see what the Japanese did to the Battleship Prince of Wales and the heavy cruiser Repulse. Both were sent to the bottom by land-based bombers. A massive loss at the cost of half a dozen Japanese aircraft. Land based bombers would have done the same to the Royal Navy had they opted to show up on the suicide mission.
As far as German troops ashore? Again, we have the British Armys performance in France and the collapse and surrender to a force less than half their size in Singapore. Use those performances as measuring sticks.
This team had loads of contemporary data that they simply ignored.
Bottom line: the whole world should forever thank the RAF. They were Britains last stand.

Well, the world wouldnt look too different then it does today in a few respects. Similar to our current reality, Germany would have become the undisputed power on the continent and as Germany does in todays world would preside over something similar to what is called the EU today. Also, communism would have been killed in its cradle and its spread prevented. Similar to todays world where communism is no longer a threat to spread due to its ideology being proven unviable by the great communist experiment that has ran its course and failed miserably in the process of doing so. To be clear I understand China is technically considered a communist country, but for many years now has been so in name only. At its core China is now a capitalist country.

One idea that didn't get explored would be the role of the Republic of Ireland in this whole thing. Not going to speculate on that ATT -- I'll leave that to others.
BUT. there is a film called It Happened Here, a B&W British indie film released in 1964, that covered the What If Britain had been occupied by the Nazis. ATT it recv'd a lot of criticism because it portrayed the greatest danger not from German Nazis but from collaborators and members of the British Union of Facists. The British of 1964 didn't want to think that any Brit would willingly turn on his or her own; when in fact, interviews with people from occupied countries showed that was in fact what happened.

Appropriate the home guard, I suggest you read a book by Geoffrey Household called Rogue Male, published in 1939, or even watch the 1976 friln of the same title. The Home Guard really did practice setting up and operating in this manner - even to the extent of laying in provisions There were many other planned defence strategies drawn up by the Home Guard - most of whom but with a few exceptions took their work very seriousply. however I believe there may have been a few Dads Army examples.

Of course the greatest 'what if' is: 'what if alternatives to capitalism were given a real chance at success, rather then massively hampered and invaded and embargoed? '. which these folk will never do a program on.

I'm sorry, but a lot of this discussion has me just scratching my head. I'm pretty sure (read certain) that Germany did not have submersible tanks in 1940. And the idea that the Luftwaffe didn't have the right gear to attack the Royal Navy is. well. take a look at what its ally, Japan, did to the Prince of Wales and the Repulse using carrier-based aeroplanes. Very poor stuff, Dan, I expected so much better.

Logistically, the Germans had absolutely no chance whatsoever. The Royal Navy would have to somehow been removed. Germany could field less than twenty destroyer against over one hundred destroyer and more than outnumbered in terms of battleships, heavy and light cruisers. Ultimately, the RN won even without having to break into a sweat.

What if Germany had won the race to build the atomic bomb? But with the expulsion of Jewish students and academics from universities that was probably unlikely to happen. The University of Heidelberg for example lost almost a quarter of its academics when the Nazis came to power.

At the time they are talking about 1940 the home guard had hardly any weapons! They were training with broom sticks! The Auxiliary forces was basically still on the drawing board and the armys they were talking about had no heavy weapons!

I think if Germany won the battle of Britain they would not invade. I believe they would have continued an incessant bombing campaign. They would pound Britain into dust until they surrendered.

Not the old 'Britain's secret weapon -radar cliche. The Germans had radar - and it was better than ours! Ours was fixed - towers around our coast. The German radar was portable as well as fixed.
