I wouldn't fair too well in those days, however. I wish I had been born in those times. When your highest highs would be todays lows. rich or poor. of course, I wouldn't know that. But, I think the simple ways of life back then would of been far easier to deal with. Even with famine and such and being poor. You would of grown up knowing how to survive. so even if you were kicked from a lords area, it may not be so far fetched that you'd still manage to find a general level of happiness.
In todays world, those with outreaching mental illness, such as myself. There is such a multitude of issues that create multitudes of anxieties and small worries that compound day to day. sometimes things are nice, for a time. which is great. and i love it. But man, most of the time I just don't want to exist during these times.
Basically live in a time where we preach tolerance but shame anyone with issues even though the current fad is yelling from the rooftops that we love everyone.
As soon as you ask those same people for help you're shunned for needing help.
Especially if you need a larger than normal amount of help.
People think being nice for a day is gonna solve whatever problem we have. and the next day they just expect you to be Normal.
I may be rambling at this point, but damnit it's so frustrating.

There is so much bogus being told and shown. What are they using referances from the 1950ties? Love the blah blah about the guy who has to hold the pan and that he needs strong arms, hmm guess they have not seen all the referances for tripods on which pans could be rested without having to hold them all the time. And the bit with the improvised Dutch oven (pan over pan) where embers and ashes are dumped onto the food just wonderful. All that is missing is that bones are thrown over the shoulder onto the floor people using two handed swords for eating and making pig grunt noises

Some of the things this documentary is saying just are not true. For example when you say fresh water fish like salmon was only for the rich is not accurate. In fact peasants ate a lot of fresh salmon because of the obedience I mean salmon is everywhere and fishers would fish it of course. But it wasn't something for the rich as peasants where able to catch their own fish as well without it costing them a dime. I learned this from a true historian on medieval food and such so.

No stone castles in 1400s. Is that what they said. They said at the beginning it was1420 I believe. And when the lower folk was outside cooking they said they was no stone castles? That is utterly untrue.
Ok I misheard that. They went back even further in time. That is still not entirely true. France had started making stone castles and later did the English after Norman conquest in the 11th century.

I wonder how the peasant diet changed in the late middle ages to renaissance. Up to the Black Death most agriculture was subsistence farming by individual families. The land underwent a shift to cash crops such as wool, so farms closed and pastures opened. That's the time cities began to grow, so I would expect diets would shift as well.

I think the peasants got the better choice of wine given that it was pressed and not crushed by foot I would hate to drink anything that I had crushed with my own feet let alone having been exposed to being crushed by the feet of some one who may only bath once or twice a year!

this is so Disgusting. The Animal abuse, murder of pigs, cows, chickens, fishes and other land and sea animals and birds, is making me so nauseous. What sick people. How did God allow this to go on? Well at least He gave them a Lot of Diseases (as in modern day culture)

The moment I heard then saying Middle Ages invented masonry and claiming Europeans invented algebra I knew it was total crab. two egregiously wrong claims in the starting minute of the documentary tells you something about its informative quality: horrible.

Bread in the middle ages was a cause of diabetes. Especially white bread since there was little to no nutrition in it. Upper class food was more unhealthy according to research. The peasant food had lots of calories but much healthier.

Even the Timeline believes in myth of 40 years lifespan. That span was mostly the result of newborns deaths. It should say life expectancy at birth (10 kids born, 5 survives till 80 and 5 dies would give us average of 40. Average.

Butter had yet to be invented.
What a blunder!
Someone didn't do his homework!
In ancient Greek, the word is boutyros, from which we get the modern English word butter.
That is how old butter is.

19: 35 Butter had yet to be invented. Butter has been around pre-history. I haven't been paying much attention, but that is astoundingly bad history-- you used the word 'invented' on a food, lol.

Scarcity wasn't the problem. Systemic abuse of power hurt the peasants. I can't imagine one family owning the entire forest and all fishing waters, so that hunting or fishing was stealing.

No potatoes, corn, spelt for bread amongst other foods only known in the New World. It was hunger from the common people that triggered exploration to find new resources to feed their people.

A peasant was valuable to a lord to bring in the harvests and do a lot of manual labour. I cannot see a landowner or Lord allow his servants to starve. The work doesnt get done by magic.
