Is there any proof for the statement that the digits have to add up to match the length of the number. I've found it being said a few times online but can't find any proof of why it's the case

i solved it by starting everything out as zeros and then putting in the right number in the zero spot and then i kept changing the other numbers to correspond with that until I got the answer.

This is one of the only riddles in the 100+ Ted Ed riddles that I, a high schooler could solve. But it's cool this is the 3rd one I solved and so far the easiest.

So the general solution for n digits will be:
(n-4, 21, 0 (n-7) times, 1000
I have no solution for 5 and 6 tho, anyone got it?
