First of all, after the liberation from roman rule the Celtic tribes were displaced by Germanic tribes who also settled in France and were the frankish tribe a Germanic tribe and later adopted Christianity as their religion.
Later franks would found a dynasty and empire and under frankish emperors would conquer entire France and would conquer territories of northern Spain and would also conquer Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Poland, slovenia, czechia and followed Christianity as it's official religion.
Frankish empire would later become holy roman empire under emperor Charles, charlemagne i. e. Charles the magnificent who founded the Holy Roman Empire in 800 AD when the Christian pope of Italy crowned Charles as the King of rome and therefore the Holy Roman Empire regarded as it's successor to western roman empire.
The Holy Roman Empire also maintained diplomatic and alliance with Byzantine Empire.
Later eventually after the death of charlemagne, frankish empire would have civil wars and later the frankish empire would end with its division into 3 parts by 843 AD, west francia or West frankish empire, east francia or east frankish empire and middle francia or middle frankish empire.
The middle frankish empire would be conquered by western and eastern frankish empires and eastern frankish empire would become the Holy Roman Empire and later the polish would gain independence and polish kingdom would come and Holy Roman Empire would later become Holy Roman Empire of the kingdom of Germany and later into kingdom of Germany and the western frankish empire would loss the northern territories of Spain and would lose the the territories of Belgium and territories of Switzerland to the eastern frankish empire or Holy Roman Empire.
Then only the western frankish empire or western francia would become the kingdom of France, all French people of French language.
Then later English French war, hundred years war and later the French colonial empire from 1534 to 1792 before the first french republic (1792 to 1804) and later back to French colonial empire in 1804 before being overthrown again in 1848 and then second french republic (1848 to 1852) before the coming back of French monarchy in 1852 and the French colonial empire again existing from 1852 to 1870 and after that France and it's all conquered territories becoming finally a democratic federal republic and then third french republic (1870 to 1940) ruling all overseas colonies and conquering even more territories ( territories of Africa and Asia) before being conquered by Germany in 1940 and remaining conquered by the Germans and ruling nominally as vichy government of France from 1940 to 1944 before finally getting independence from Germans and founding the provisional government of French republic in 1944 and ruled till 1946 before the fourth French republic (1946 to 1958) came followed by fifth French republic (1958 to present) which is the current French republic.

France has 1500 year history, build on 500 years of Roman history, People don't realize how important this is. 500 years of massive Investment from Rome, agriculture, Infrastructure, roads, aquaducts, governance, school, cities, justice and all the other institutions. 500 years is more than most current countries existed, the US is still just half than 249 years old.
When the Romans crumbled it made things easy form the Franks, you get a territory with all the good stuff for travel and management already in place. That's also why The german part did not get invaded first, the Roman did not unified the territory like they did in Gala Romana, so It required more ressources from the Franks.
England was also under Rome for 400 years. This is no coincidence that the biggests power in the Renaissance/colonial era are made from the most developped Roman regions (England, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy)
A lot of people argue about Germany and stuff. Gauls are not Gauls, it is a Roman name given to the people there. Germans are not Germans most of Germania was also attributed to them by the Romans. What they were are Celts, all of them across europe. Differents tribes scatterred with different evolution. Germans are not germans, they are Ostrosgoths, Visigoths, Burgunds, etc, Franks are their own tribe descendant from the Celts.
Charlemagne was the Franks' king and emperor, not the German one. He did kick the ass of all of eastern tribes and unified them under the Frankish kingdom, The Holy Roman Empire v1 (c) was French.
The Empire did not break in 2 but was divided in 3 for retarded Heritage Frankish rules.
Which also dictate as it was called at the beginning of the split, that Germany is not Germany it's just Easter France (litteraly East Frankia.

An interesting fact is that the Franks were connected not only to the Western Roman Empire, but also to the Eastern Roman Empire. For example, the wife of Emperor Arcadius was Aelia Eudoxia, daughter of the Frankish commander of the Roman army, Bautho, and mother of Emperor Theodosius II and Empress Pulcheria.
In the West, in 400, Emperor Honorius made the Franks citizens of the empire; their legal status was called Letty. Later, for his loyalty, the Frankish king Childeric I was subsequently awarded the position of dux (governor) of the province of Belgica II by one of the last Roman emperors, as mentioned in a letter from Bishop Remigius of Reims to King Clovis I, written in the late 490s. In 508, a Byzantine embassy arrived in Tours to visit Clovis, informing him that Emperor Anastasius I had elevated him to the rank of patrician and recognized him as Roman governor of the province of Gaul. Anastasius also sent him royal insigniaa chlamys, a purple tunic, and a diademas a sign of formal recognition. By this act, Byzantium expressed its approval of Clovis's anti-Gothic policy and his embrace of Christianity. For the Christian population of Gaul, this signified further confirmation of the legitimacy of the Frankish government.

These were germans not french. What you consider france today was as far away from these people as you can imagine. Maybe you want to look up where these tribes came from And best dont read in french or english history books. because they are more story than anything on this topic smgdh. Revisionism is STRONG with the french concerning their reason detre. And roots.
french came about far later when the other third of the once united empire claimed the HOLY ROMAN EMPROR ship. And the king of today france was scared that the Emperor of the Holy roman empire KING OF ALL GERMANS. Would allow the King of today germany to claim the title of kinghood from him. Which because the pope was involved and the HRE. was not at all foolish to think.
That is btw the same reason the english started to become english. They tried to tell their people that they had nothing to do with themselves anymore. And started to inflect the language. Started to change customs and and and. Therby as always. creating the worst possible out come for all europe. In a selfish ploy to keep their throne.

so you mean without christianity there never would of been a france because at the very beginning of the foundation of france christianity was there and fundamental before beginning and i guess all the way to napoleon. Wow. christianity the founder religion of the west how beautiful. :'. Yes the Western Europe completely christian by 600 AD. so beautiful. now the west lies in ruins in comparison to its heights of glory maybe its cause they left their first love.

so apparently the Saxons and franks didn’t get along when they were Germanic clans living side by side in Germania. Saxons migrated to Britain and compiled the English culture, the franks migrated west and compiled the French culture. Both clans took over Roman settlements and both clans continue to not like each other Britain and France have the 100 years war and even today are competitive. Fashion, culture, militarily.

I swear, France is the most epic country ever.
Descendant of Rome, it fought a hundred-year struggle for sovereignty, became one of the first superpowers, kicked off the contemporary era with revolutions, ideas, and rights we still use today. It fought valiantly against invaders in both world wars, and now it is the main force of Europe, still standing.

The shift from Rome to early France was not a dramatic collapse but a slow handover of authority to new power centres. As Roman structures weakened local leaders filled the gap and eventually shaped the identity that became France. It highlights how nations often emerge from administrative decay rather than clean historical breaks.
reply

The franks were actually the ones who founded france originally founded france, but technically, if you want to get technical, it was actually charlemagne, who did that because he founded the frankish empire, which eventually split into 2 becoming the holy roman empire and the other becoming the kingdom of france

Been eagerly awaiting this video. I'm surprised that Christianity managed to take root in France even before being adopted as the state religion of the empire. That's a chapter of history that rarely mentioned. And it changes the importance of the Frankish Christian conversion to the Gallo-Romans.
reply

14: 00 Initially resisted by Roman authority, tribes were eventually accomodated. unintegrated people arriving from the East en masse with different cultures and customs. led to the disintegration of the Empire.
History may not repeat but it certainly does rhyme.

Rome didn’t die when the Germanic Tribes inherited the Western half. The Eastern half continued on for many centuries. Plus the West had a Roman Emperor again too his name was Charlemagne. You would think in the Information Age, Knowkedgia would know that.
reply

As an Indian, I always wondered how backward, illiterate and barbaric Germanic Tribes went on to become the most successful conquerers, architects, craftsmen, scientists and most civilized people in the world.
I would like if you make one video on this.

reply

It's astonishing to think that what began as a so-called 'barbarian' kingdom evolved into one of Europe’s most influential nations. The transition from the Franks to the foundations of modern France is truly fascinating. Thank you for bringing history to life!

You know the weird THING. French and Italians are very similar. I am Southern Italian and love to argue and yell BUT I have noticed My French friends also like to argue BUT DAMN They do not argue like us Italians. HILARIOUS.
reply

i'm a descendant of the Visigoth Germans. My family is from Spain and settled in the Cuba. My last name is Germanic and that's all i need to know. I also look like a Visigoth with long hair and a beard lol.
reply

Unfortunately, the Franks attempting to take over the Roman mantle was the indirect cause for the schism and the reason why everyone later in history wants to call the living Rome on the East Byzantium
reply

Why does everyone keep calling him Caesar His name was Gaius of the Julii (aka, Julian family) He didn't even rate having two names let alone three. The Caesar appellation came much later.
reply

Wait. So masses of people of different cultures and customs were allowed to set up parallel societies in Gaul that eventually lead to the the collapse of the Empire itself Interesting.
reply

Lugdunum was also chosen by the Romans because the city has seven hills, like Rome. They saw this as a sign from the gods, symbolizing prosperity, peace, and expansion.
