There's an important part of the Anglo-German rivalry that isn't mentioned: Following its unification in 1871 after the victory at Sedan in September 1870, the German Empire's industrial power snowballed out of control. This upset the British for three reasons 1) The Kaiser was now the biggest threat to Britain's Balance of Powers 2) The Kaiser built a military fleet, threatening British supremacy on the seas 3) German production of goods was so massive that it started to undermine British exports, and worse, German products were starting to compete with British products. in the British isles. All jokes aside, I want to say that this is perhaps the second-most informative and practical video I've ever seen about the Scramble for Africa.
Too many people trying to teach that piece of history start pushing activism and the information becomes hard to trust because it's not presented with neutrality. Just the fact that a big reason (at least claimed) for the scramble was to put an end to the slave trade is something that almost nobody mentions, and I am so grateful to have that piece of history mentioned so that people can see the history from a more complete lens.

Bismarck actively incited France to expand oversea, in order to weakens it in Europe. It worked perfectly, both in 1914 and even more so in 1940. The colonial expansion was globally a bad thing for France. If you want to protect your land, start by not sending your forces 5000 km away and spending your money building roads and rails that would have been useful to defends yourself against the Nth german invasion.

The first attack on Africa was on algeria cause of raids and razzias launched by muslims from south africa to take goods and people and rped childrens, killed aged people. Muslims practiced slavery during 13 centuries in Africa and caused many massacre even Serbian and bosniak taken by ottoman. Maybe we had territory this big cause cause we had more assault from muslims.

I mean, for most of us Africa is an unimaginable large continent. Due to distortion of sizes on mercator maps the perception of its size is wrong and it appears to be much smaller in comparison to other land masses near the poles. So it is fair enough to make the video adequately long IMHO.

France also wanted to get a bit of Southern America blocking and going at war against Argentina between 1845 and 1848, allegadely to protect their uruguayan allies but with the intention of make the Rio de la Plata a open river and Argentina and Uruguay a protectorated.

I believe there are extra perks if you’re video is at least 8 min which is why these new longer videos run 8-9 min. If you’re not going to reach the 8 min mark, might as well do 3-5min. Hence the jump from 3-5min to 8-9 min videos

5: 454 It is fitting that he chose another video about the French to do a 'face reveal' more like an avatar reveal. Given that his first video was about 'Ten Minute History - The French Revolution and Napoleon (Short Documentary)'

And allegedly america doesn't even like France.

The Berlin Conference being convened to end the slave trade in Africa is literally never taught in US schools due to the persistant anti-colonialist, anti-European narrative.

Sacrificing young men in Souteast Asia for negligible gains, or for businesses to make greater profits 6: 35 We certainly wish the US could have learned from France's mistakes

I'd honestly like a 10 minute history on the Algerian war, as it was the pinnacle of France's empire collapsing despite their desperate (and macabre) attempts to stop it

For the same reason Britain got so much of Africa:
Because it was easy.
France did its expansion for what it needed: money
Vanitity and status motivated Britain.

France's expansion of French Indochina, and their inaccurately and arbitrarily drawn maps, is what led to this year's border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

We should also remember a lot of that territory is the Sahara. So while the French holdings were prodigious they were not quite as much so as they first appear

5: 09 This reminded me of a joke I heard years ago: Bismark only laughed twice in his life. When his mother-in-law died and when he saw a Swedish soldier.

It's funny that you got the location of Ascension Island right but not the fact that Napoleon got shipped to St. Helena. Unless this is a joke I'm missing.

France gained much of Africa through aggressive colonization, strategic expansion, and imperial competition during the 19th-century Scramble for Africa.

France and Britain relationship is like a toxic couple that can't split up infact they're economy is just behind each other and today they're all shit

Like entrepreneurs, we judge big nations on their hability to handle setbacks and come back on the scene as France and Germany did quite astonishingly
