One of the first things I picked up on when I first read this book was the feeling of hopelessness Winston knew he was going to die from the moment he committed a thought crime his death was set in motion and just like his death once the ball starts rolling for a dystopian timeline in any world there is no stopping it

What they wouldn't be able to shape through the manipulation of language is the visceral, animalistic hate that comes from the reptilian part of the brain. Sophisticated, reasoning parts of the brain, through the use of language, can over ride ancient parts so be very careful.

I feel like we like in a mix of 1984 and Brave New World-
but we have to BUY our own surveillance devices, and our weed is too weak.
Come on NSA, send me an iPhone 11 and a pound of weed. How am I supposed to stay monitored and sedated on this recession income? smh

I think actually dictators do attempt to control the time.
For example in China the country only uses one time zone.
So the sun may rise at 4pm in western China or something.
Also, I THINK North Korea uses its own calendar

If there are no words to express a thought, a new word will be created to express it. This happens every day. They might say that newspeak reduces its vocabulary every year, but there will undoubtedly be new forms of expression made.

Why do people assume that the appendix is written by a character? Wouldn't it make more sense for it to be the same omniscient narrator that tells the rest of the story, saying it in the same tense that the story is told in?

Who's here after the -pandemic- that's happening? This is scary how we're all going to turn into Orwell's 70 year old vision. All those 5g and new technologies being rolled out, soon most countries are turning into china

I love your videos so much. I have a newfound interest in history and literature and I wish I could discuss it in classes with people but this helps to bring everything together. Thanks so much you rock

The appendix being written in standard English may serve as a clue for a theory that Oceania only controls England or Britain, and that Eastasia and Eurasia are made up by Ingsoc.

1984 is basically 1948 and a warning of wartime regulations and restrictions which were still in place in Britain; also a commentary on the beginnings of the 'Cold War. '
