So we ended the last episode at the North American Video Game Crash of 1983, and even though the video game market had collapsed in the United States, demand for video games remained strong in Europe and Asia. Nintendo of Japan, originally a playing card company, which had seen some success in arcades, saw this as an opportunity to (tentatively) introduce its own console to the U. S. - the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES. The NES saw a number of significant technological and gameplay improvements but it was Nintendo-s approach to game development that changed the industry. Nintendo-s defined a new set of standards for video game quality by requiring contracts with all 3rd party developers. Nintendo even used special technology within the console that forced developers to get approval, marketed as a Seal of Quality, for their games to work on the console. And this strategy worked. Nintendo reinvigorated the North American market and became synonymous with quality games. But it wouldn-t be the only new player in the U. S. for long

FALSE. FALSE, FALSE.
Intellivison DID NOT LEAVE THE MARKET PLACE.
Watch the documentary Intellivison LIVES. It SURVIVED THE CRASH UNTIL 1990. It was still getting NEW GAMES throughout the 80's.
Atari was split into 3 halves. Warner kept the communications side, Jack Traimel got the console and computer division and Namco got the Arcade division.
God know what you are talking about. Just like the last video where you called a Commodore VIC -20 a Commodore 64.

Nice. Unfortunately those good ole days are a part of history that hasn't repeated itself in the 8th Generation and the 7th Generation for that matter. I think the current Wii U's concept as a console is interesting but the direction Nintendo is heading is what has killed the company on sales figures, loyalty and everything else. I know Nintendo is planning on releasing the NX console but at this point they should cancel the project and rebrand themselves!

What's actually pretty cool about Donkey Kong's success is that Nintendo actually took a risk with Miyamoto. They had had experience with games, admittedly, with the Game & Watch and Duck Hunt, and if you want to go even further back, the Love Tester and Hanafuda, but they were actually pretty hesitant about Donkey Kong; they saw Shigeru as young, and a little eccentric, but once they saw how profitable Donkey Kong was, they went with it.

Forgot to mention earlier that I think it was Ataris Pac-Man failure that led to the video game crash of 1983.
Lol, LJN got into the political wars with Nintendo over the 10NES rights. When I look at LJN cartridges I think of the black market.

these arnt thought bubbles. your just continuing on with the video. thought bubbles are meant to help us understand the situation through a new light, not just tell more facts

I was expecting a longer history, like from start to finish but this is great for learning the origins of Nintendo so I guess that's good enough.

Of course we all know their quality standards were a farce and guys like AVGN have made careers out of exposing inferior titles.
