Getting Help - Psychotherapy: Crash Course Psychology #35 Aidann: Can someone tell me what therapy I need? Idk if I should even be diagnosing but I have a family with tons of problems and traumatic events that has made all people have different effects on their mental health. I-m trying to enter us into therapy but my mom is dismissive of feelings and my sister is suffering mentally same as I and I don-t want anything to get worse. I-m doing some research before having an intervention with my mom.

Was it intentional for me to greatly dislike behavior therapy and realize it's a big factor in why people think therapy doesn't work? I know there's base by base, but it feels like a temporary solution that avoids the problem rather than fixing it. Then again, it's mentioned in the video itself that money is a factor. It's. embarrassing to know we have the solutions to many problems people have but it's hidden behind a pay wall.

You should talk more about self help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and more. For my psychology class, I focused on Spenders Anonymous because nowadays, we live in a consumerist culture. Ads are everywhere and we are often bombarded with ads telling us to buy things we don't need. Also, people tend to do most of their shopping online so it's better to look further into that.

Be careful with psychotherapists - not all have good intentions. When you are the most vulnerable, your soul is at stake.
-They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, - - 2 Timothy 3: 6.

Heard somewhere that if you expose a smoker to a mix of the smell of nicotine with rotten eggs while s/he is sleeping will make him/her associate those smells and then s/he'll quit smoking. Of course who wants their bedroom to smell of rotten eggs for the rest of their lives.

I wonder why they don-t have a separate communication therapy, like voice modulation, practising expressing emotions
SINCE I HYPOTHIZE the most common cause of PROBLEMS are
Not being able to negotiate for oneself, because of lack of social skill ( which should be improved )

I learned from this video that there are numerous different approaches to dealing with mental health and that some solutions are more suited for certain situations than others. I learned that certain mental health issues can have unrelated consequences to the original problem.

Soooo, why do none of these actually resolve the problems I am facing? How about instead of brainwashing me, the therapist goes upstairs and shoots my neighbor who plays loud rap 47 times int he chest instead of making me believe its okay for the neighbor to do that?

Going to see a psychologist for the first time for my anxiety. super anxious about it haha. But I-m less nervous about talking to her than about what happens if I don-t get better. But I hear a lot of people saying cognitive behavioral therapy is helpful.

I believe that behavioral therapies can be the wrong thing for those with CPTSD (or possibly other trauma disorders. Just an opinion. But it can push people into triggering/dissociation and re-traumatize and in fact further entrench the trauma.
