In which John Green teaches you about Imperialism. In the late 19th century, the great powers of Europe were running around the world obtaining colonial possessions, especially in Africa and Asia. The United States, which as a young country was especially suceptible to peer pressure, followed along and snapped up some colonies of its own. The US saw that Spain's hold on its empire was weak, and like some kind of expansionist predator, it jumped into the Cuban War for Independence and turned it into the Spanish-Cuban-Phillipino-American War, which usually just gets called the Spanish-American War. John will tell you how America turned this war into colonial possessions like Puerto Rico, The Philippines, and almost even got to keep Cuba. The US was busy in the Pacific as well, wresting control of Hawaii from the Hawaiians. All this and more in a globe-trotting, oppressing episode of Crash Course US History. That's Emilio Aguinaldo. /E-Mil-Yo A-Gi-Nal-Do/
US put up 'schools' to teach Filipinos to look up to Americans
Raw materials transported through 'railroads' were gathered from the Philippines, used for products in the US then sold back to Philippines.
And with a new generation now looking up to the US, becomes loyal consumer of US goods, hated what is -local- and is a patron of -state side-.
After being sold from Spain, US initially tied up with some Illustrados or educated Filipinos and give them positions in the colonized Philippines when these Illustrados were initially fighting for freedom from colonization of Spain thus silencing them up and gave birth to the TraPo or the traditional politicians who are dropping their ideals as soon as they have grabbed power.

I haven't finished the series yet, so maybe you address this or in another episode, but Hawai'i. it didn't just -get annexed- lol. Of the list of shady things the US has done to acquire land, taking Hawai'i ranks pretty damn high. I thought you would be eager to point that out, and I was sitting waiting, or expecting, for it to come out of you mouth and you glossed right over it. Anyhow Hawai'i, stolen, all I'm gonna say.

We should be concerned about China imperialism. They brutally conquer and slave many countries like the Manchu, Zhuang, Hui, Uyghur, the latest is the Tibetan. Today the Communist Chinese wants to take over the East sea the area that almost as big as China main land.
Be aware of Chinese propaganda.

And then there is the quiet imperialism of the United Fruit Company's takeover of the -banana republics- in South America. No territory changed hands but the US bought control of the levers of power. When you have them by the financial balls their hearts and minds will follow.

damn this video is narcissist, they're basically saying that if you're in a war with the U. S. immediately surrender when they have now been fighting the same country for nearly 10 years.

Knock knock, it's the United States, with huge boats, with guns, gunboats.
-Open the country, stop having it be closed, - said the United States.
