READ THIS: THERE ARE TWO MORE VIDEOS IN THE WORLD HISTORY SERIES. You should also turn on the captions. You'll like them. In which John Green teaches you about the post-World War II breakup of most of the European empires. As you'll remember from previous installments of Crash Course, Europeans spent several centuries sailing around the world creating empires, despite the fact that most of the places they conquered were perfectly happy to carry on alone. After World War II, most of these empires collapsed. This is the story of those collapses. In most places, the end of empire was not orderly, and violence often ensued. While India was a (sort of) shining example of non-violent change, in places like The Congo, Egypt, Rwanda, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, things didn't go smoothly at all. John brings you all this, plus pictures of Sea Monkeys. Sadly, they don't look anything like those awesome commercials in the comic books. Re

I am Congolese born and Burundian raised, both mentioned in the video, I thought the historical facts were as close as they can get. An innocent laughter on these matters is always a good thing. Yes African countries didn't have sufficient time to develop as Europeans did, but we are surely catching up.
Ps: I will soon be the 17th congolese to get a college degree---

-CrashCourse the term -tribe- is considered by some of us Afrocentric thinkers as a -pejorative term constructed by Europeans to mystify or trivialise the intricacies of the complex ethnic diversity which has historically existed in Africa-. We prefer not to use it in reference of unitary ethnic groups on continental Africa.

Speaking about decolonization without mentioning neocolonialism, capitalism, Western-organized coups to take down e. g. Mosaddegh or Lumumba or Sankara, inequalities, imposition of Western standards (e. g. economic growth or university diplomas, etc. Seems a bit partial and incomplete?

LOL, the globe-spanning empires of America, the UK, and the Soviet Union are somehow anti-imperialist? The French empire alone dwarfed what Germany conquered. This is a bad talking point, intended to bring wokeness to the WW2 mythology.

Sadly, today India is ruled by followers of Gandhi's assassin. The world needs to intervene because clearly all institutions within the country are compromised and we're just a step away from. being like North Korea.

Crash Course will forever be helpful. I wonder how many high school history teachers have just told their students -watch all the crash course videos and you'll be done for the year. -

Just a quick shout out to the Hindu nationalist party to assassinated Gandhi which, fun fact, is the same Hindu nationalist party lead by the current Prime Minister Modi.

John - -You never knew what happened AFTER the rebels victory in Star Wars! -
Me - -Oh. oh John. We should've wished for it to stay that way. -
