I would think the charred wood would b best as-is for protection and longevity. If your issue is the black stuff coming off on shoes and hand, simply quick run over with power washer or even jst hard hose spray should probably remove any loose carbon. When u sand it it, it was like a sprinter not only going back to the starting line, but even further back. That sanding is now going to create bunch of tiny uneven rough surfaces that water will absorb much easily into, which is exactly wat your trying to prevent. Another thing i wouldn't do with any electrical devices, is toggle on and off quickly, like u did with the blower. It's not something u should do with any electronics. It can prematurely cause component failures as well as potentially cause battery contact carbon/corrosion build up, causing weaker current flow.
The rounding off of the edge, that's kinda double edged sword. It will lessen getting a deeper cut on direct fall on the edge, but it can also lead to greater chance of slipping, as rounded corner will increase slipperyness when it's wet. Also, the natural wood is very light color, so in the dark of night light, u'll still likely b able to easily see the steps, but with the darker tint, u won't b able to see those step so easily, probably invisible at night. U'll need lights at night there to see the steps or could end up tripping. I think a cool effect would have been to darken/char the riser, and keep the tread light color, so it looks like floating steps. U'll also b able to see the steps easily cuz it's light color.

I read the comments from everyone, not sure you read any of the comments or will read mine. but your format has changed, we never see Nicole or the kids, it's just about you building and talking, cool you are an amazing builder but it just is not the same. plus you do ask for donations but you have more than 2 millions followers I would think you have more money than I do and own 2 pieces of land, I own nothing, also you seem a bit abrupt at times. anyway hope all is well with you and your family as it has become a one man show and it's not as enjoyable, I appreciate your hard work and amazing talents but you can't call it off grid with Jake and Nicole, we never see her anymore. ok best wishes to you and yours

Your program is so different. Now. You've never seen a cole in the kids anymore. I enjoyed seeing the interaction with them and seeing nicole in the garden and working with the chickens and stuff. Your place is so beautiful and you have so much wonderful property, but it's sad because you have these yurts and all these buildings and laying around them is nothing but pieces of lumber and stacks of debris. And it takes away from the beauty of your property. I'm just missing you and nicole. Go out on the boat and fishing and doing things around the property and seeing the garden and everything. Now all you do is see what you're doing on the house. And all around the house has nothing but debris

I like this style of video so much better. We get to see more of what you actually do live and can leave the filming and the comments to your Assistant. She's doing a great job! The only help I can offer you is that the mic on the phone does not carry the distance between you and her so at times it's hard to hear you. You're doing a GREAT job. I so look forward to following you on this journey.

I don't care much for the live, the way you used to edit your other video's were perfect. This video has too much wind in the back ground. Shorter video's no more than 20 mins would be perfect. I find myself fast forwarding when they are so long. I love checking in, but don't have an hour to watch out of my day. Otherwise every thing is perfect. Came back to say no sound 12mins in.

No matter the type of construction, shipping containers are never absent; their sturdiness, durability, safety, eco-friendliness, and reusability are the very characteristics that account for their immense popularity. If you were to repurpose a used refrigerated container for such a project, the result would be even more perfectis that an idea that appeals to you

I'm a real person. I used to be a religious watcher but it's the quality of the video for me. My eyes are already kind of crappy and when a lot of the video is buffering or blurry it kind of messes with my eyes. I love you guys I love the work you do and the family dynamic and all of the things but the video quality for me is challenging.

If you hate social media so much, why do you not do something else. You have turned out to be one of the most arrogant, narcissistic humans ever. One minute you’re begging for money on social media, the next you’re slapping them in the face. Haven’t you ever heard don’t bite the hand that feeds you Weirdo!

I heard a story that someone's been stealing grandpa's firewood, and he didn't know who. so he made a hole in a log added some black powder, covered up the hole, put the log back on the pile. 2 days later his neighbors furnace blew through the door, now everyone knew. This can work with anything (gas.

I think Josh & Erin on wild wonderful off grid burnt theirs with the torch then wire brushed it off then wiped it off then used a sealer to protect it.
Your missing taking rags or a cloth and wiping it all down to get the black soot off then seal it with a good sealer.

Your last video you spoke of possibly storing the Douglas fir under the house for future use. If so, you may want to treat to prevent bugs from damaging. I believe it's a borax solution to prevent bugs from boring into the wood. Love watching the house progress

I think it would look beautiful if you stain the top and the front of the step and then the boards that are in front go ahead and leave those really dark and the contrast would be beautiful. Then you could see more of the cherry from a distance.

Just so you might be interested in trying out a surface planar. They are very good for finishing wood. If you care not to have to send so much a planer will do 99, maybe 95% of the work for you. Much smoother much prettier

I would only sand minimally to rid the loose ash. Once stained it should seal the wood. I love the cherry stain color!
My husband & I built our home in its entirety just the two of us. Very accomplished feeling!

. you'll happily use the DJI wireless Bluetooth mic but you 'll black out the logo so as not to promote them. Why on earth would you not promote a company if you use their product and you are satisfied with it Jake
